Lenten Retreat with Bishop Remi De Roo March 3-5

Bishop Remi De Roo, Bishop Emeritus of Victoria, B.C., Canada, celebrated as the youngest Bishop to participate in Vatican II in Rome forty-four years ago, later to attend the beatification ceremonies for the Pope who ordained him, Pope John the 23rd, whose papal ring he possesses. Bishop De Roo is actively teaching on the reforms of Vatican II, working with his associate, Pearl Gervais, consultant in spirituality, business and human resources. Bishop Remi and Ms. Gevais will be co-facilitating A Retreat on the Parables of the Kingdom during March 3, 4 and 5 at the Big Island Liturgy and Arts Center�s Hale Lokahi, 19-3848 Old Volcano Road, Volcano.

Bishop Remi will focus on the Parables, which Jesus used as his unique way of teaching. The Gospels are filled with Parables of Jesus, but their application to today's world often seems mysterious, as if they were for another time and place. Those who have attended previous retreats by Bishop De Roo have testified that the Bible becomes alive in a new and personal way.

Remi J. De Roo and Pearl Gervais have taught together for many years, offering workshops and retreats to laity and religious communities and many other agencies. They have authored several books, the latest, BIBLICAL CHARACTERS AND THE ENNEAGRAM, in collaboration with Diane Tolomeo. Bishop Remi suggests that this retreat will help participants apply to daily life the wisdom, guidance and challenge which Jesus presented in the form of his Parables. The time shared with participants will include presentations, group work, music and quiet time. Those attending should bring their own Bible or New Testaments.

This retreat is sponsored by BILAC, an ecumenical community led by Father George DeCosta, retired priest, formerly at Malia Puka O Kalani Church in Keaukaha.

The Retreat begins Friday evening, with Saturday sessions in the morning and early afternoon, and concludes with a Mass celebration on Sunday morning.

Although you are encouraged to attend the entire retreat, it is possible and worthwhile to come even if you can attend only the Saturday sessions, tentatively planned to extend from 9AM to 3PM.
